Blog #34 Last night Meegan and I watched the ‘One World: Together at Home’ concert. I love music and truly enjoyed watching the incredible artists and the three hosts: Jimmy Fallon, Steven Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. I’ve been a fan of Jimmy Kimmel since his days hosting ‘The Man Show’ which was politically incorrect, irreverent, immature and offensive to many groups of people. Now Jimmy Kimmel has a mainstream show (Jimmy Kimmel Live) and any gaffs he may have committed with ‘The Man Show’ appear to be forgiven. I thought The Rolling Stones “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” was amazing! Mick never sounded better and Charlie Watts playing the “air” drums was great but I’m still unclear if he knew he wasn’t playing with a real drum set. Nevertheless, I hope I am still rockin’ at home when I get to be their age. I kept watching Keith Richards who appeared to be a little off key at times. That could have been his internet connection or just the bong hit he took before coming on air. I’m sure Mick, Ronnie and Charlie were a bit anxious right before they came on, thinking to themselves, “Lord, Jesus, please let Keith remember that we have a concert tonight. Please let him be coherent.” Keith was great. Never a doubt. They were all great and it crossed my mind that maybe these guys should be exposed to the virus as a proactive way of containing it. It’s evident that they’re medical miracles and no amount of toxic poison can survive once ingested in their systems. It was cool to see the musicians’ homes, in the background, as they played. Apparently, Eddie Vedder lives in a morgue complete with creepy organ, candles and weird doll dressed up in a Red Cross outfit. He was dressed in all black and the song he played was not the sunniest day of the week but he’s awesome and at least he didn’t sing “People”, unlike J-Lo. It was great to see J-Lo, it always is (Schwing!). But the only good thing about J-Lo singing “People” was that Barbara Striesand was not singing “People”. The best “no shows” at the concert were Barbara Striesand, Kenny G, Hall & Oats and The Backstreet Boys (Thank you Lady Gaga!) But they did let that guy from Green Day play and that’s when I hit ‘Mute’ and started Googling for cool back drops you can use for Zoom videos. And how about Sir Elton John, playing away on his piano on his driveway? As I witnessed his basketball hoop in the background (see attached picture) I couldn’t help but think of that great skit where Prince and the Revolution challenge Charlie Murphy and his “crew” to a game of basketball. It’s the classic Shirts versus Blouses showdown….”Prince looked like he had on something a figure skater would wear…” (I have attached the link below and recommend you watch it. ) I didn’t know Elton is a backyard baller. Or maybe he was just as inspired as I was by last week’s NBA H-O-R-S-E contest. Now that I know the Rocketman plays hoops I won’t change the channel every time “Goodbye Norma Jean” comes on the radio. Stay safe everyone and keep on rockin’.
